I long to make a difference in this world. Do you? First things first, the most important and only way to make a positive difference that matters for eternity, one must come to the table with a biblical worldview. In other words, one must know and understand that there is only one God, the God of the Bible and that the Bible is without error. One must come with not only a sola Scriptura but a tota Scriptura understanding underpinned by faith. And with this, one needs to understand that God created mankind in His image and for those who believe and follow Christ, all things are possible. Don’t underestimate the power of God in a soul who is moving in line with His purposes. With that said, however, God can and does also move through those people and circumstances that come against His ultimate purpose.
Jeffrey Tucker, in The Power of Protest, writes, “Who would have imagined that it would be Canadian truckers who would step up and save the world?” In this editorial, Tucker is discussing the way in which these last two years of covid lockdowns and mandates have been handled by the “ruling class.” In my estimation, this story is an exhibit of how God can use a most unlikely people to accomplish the extraordinary. When Canadian prime minister, Trudeau, said that the truckers do not represent the way the mass feels, and when he referred to those who are taking a stand as “the fringe,” he made a huge mistake. Don’t underestimate the working people with a voice!
As I contemplate this, I am reminded that the ruling class in Jesus’ day were doing much the same as we see today concerning this covid pandemic and other hot and important topics.
I’ve just finished reading the book, The Maker vs The Takers, and what I see happening today is much like what was happening in Jesus’ day. The “ruling class” in their hunger for power and wealth, had been lying to the people, and through their perverted lenses, they were pushing a perverted religion, and through this mechanism of perverted religion, they were oppressing the people and taking away their freedoms. All the while they were becoming more and more powerful and corrupt. In the days of the early church, if a Christian spoke out against the ruling class of religious leaders, they were subject to be tortured or even killed. No, you could not speak up during the days of Christ’s ministry and as the church grew, you could not speak up on behalf of Christ’s authority. Your narrative had best line up with the ruling class and you had best bow to its demands. Or you could be tortured, burned at the stake, or, as in Jesus’ case, crucified.
In our day, there are those who are pushing social justice as biblical justice, and in this, they are pushing an ideology, a worldview, that is absolutely antithetical to Christian values. They mask it with nice words like diversity, equity, and inclusion, but underneath it all, there is only evil. Some like to say that you can find good in it, but in order to determine if something has good in it, you must go to the root, and the root of the CRT ideology is vengeance; a determination to segregate the people; and a desire to rule over the people with an iron fist. Sound familiar?
Listen, we are all familiar with the saying, united we stand and divided we fall, and you can count on the fact that as our nation becomes more and more divided in the name of unity (inclusion), the more we will see it crumble. Has this country made mistakes, and the people in it done some horrible things? Yes! That started with the first couple, Adam and Eve, and their offspring. And why did Cain do what he did? Why did he kill Abel? My interpretation is that he was jealous that Abel’s sacrifice was received by Almighty God, and his was not. He wanted his way – his idea of sacrifice – to be good enough. He didn’t want to abide by God’s laws but rather he wanted to be the ultimate lawmaker. He wanted his sacrifice to count when God had already laid out the instructions for sacrifice, and it wasn’t by sacrificing each other in the name of social justice.
It was by accepting the sacrifice which the Lord revealed. May we get back to what Micah counted as the three basic commands; act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with your God (Micah 6:8). God provided the ultimate sacrifice in Jesus Christ who made the way back to the basics through repentance and forgiveness of sins – not vengeance. The Lord says, “vengeance is mine,” and we should take heed.
